The good news is Errol Spence, Jr. survived an unbelievable single-car accident, with the car flipping several times. The bad news is the Dallas Police Department on Wednesday announced plans to charge him with driving while intoxicated (DWI), a class B misdemeanor.

When you see the video below, one thinks he will be happy to pay the fine once he is released from the hospital and works on his path to recovery.

The police indicated as no other vehicles were involved they do not plan to request a warrant to determine his speed at the time of the accident. His blood-alcohol level apparently was greater than 0.08 to meet the minimum guidelines by Texas law. However, since he is only facing a misdemeanor, it is presumed his blood alcohol level did not exceed 0.15.

Spence won a split-decision win over Shawn Porter in Los Angeles on Sept. 28 bringing his record up to 26-0. Yahoo Sports currently ranks him at No. 4 in the world in their pound-for-pound boxer rankings.
