Sen. Kamala Harris bows out of the race for the White House

California Sen. Kamala Harris reportedly has informed her staff she is calling an end to her race for the White House. According to NPR Harris shared the information via a teleconference with the staff. It comes on the heels of rumors about a canceled fundraising event.

Although she began the race with high hopes at an event attended by more than 20,000 supporters according to published reports, Harris never gained a consistent sustained momentum.

During the first Democratic candidate debate, she made a bit of a splash when she aggressively pushed front-runner former Vice President Joe Biden. Also, when she admonished fellow participants to stop the bickering, but she did not appear to capitalize on the bump in numbers.

In fact, the attention appeared to work against her a bit as more voters focused on her role as a district attorney in enforcing the crime bill which many believe led to the mass incarceration of African Americans. As this theme picked up steam, it resulted in a lukewarm reaction from African American voters.

Harris bows out two months before the Iowa caucuses.
