Texas Governor Issues Statewide Stay-at-Home Order

Governor Greg Abbott today released a video with a statewide to message to all Texans as his Executive Order goes into effect requiring all Texans to stay home unless they are participating in an essential service or activity.

According to the Executive Order, it does not restrict essential government services during the COVID-19 crisis. A list of essential services and activities as defined under the Executive Order can be found here.

Religious services conducted in churches, congregations, and houses of worship are permitted under his Order.

In his video, he says, “By following social distancing practices, we will slow the spread of COVID-19. We will save lives,” Governor Abbott stated in the released video.

The Executive Order goes into effect at 12:01 a.m., April 2 and is set to expire on April 30. However, it is subject to extension.

  1. Religious services conducted in churches, congregations, and houses of worship are permitted under his Order.

The above provision of this order is STUPID! No large gatherings should be allowed.

  2. Even as a person of faith, this is disappointing. The governor is clearly listening more to his base than scientists.
