UNT Dallas Hosts Monthly Drive-Thru Food Pantry in Southern Dallas

DALLAS, TX — As hunger rates rise across North Texas, UNT Dallas continues to provide critical support with its monthly drive-thru food pantry. In partnership with the North Texas Food Bank, the next free food distribution will be held Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon (or while supplies last) at UNT Dallas’ southern campus, 7300 University Hills Blvd., Dallas 75241.

Since its launch in 2020, the mobile pantry has become a trusted resource for students, families, and the surrounding community. So far in 2025, the program has distributed over 191,000 pounds of food to roughly 11,900 individuals, supplementing nearly 590,000 pounds given to almost 18,000 people in 2024.

The need remains significant. According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap report:

  • One in six North Texans lives in a household without consistent access to nutritious meals.

  • The Dallas-Fort Worth area ranks third nationwide for people facing hunger, including more than 441,000 children.

  • Dallas County has 454,140 food-insecure residents, ranking fifth in the U.S., while Tarrant County has 337,350, ranking twelfth.

  • Sixty percent of the 1.3 million food-insecure individuals in DFW reside in these two counties.

  • Nearly 5.1 million Texans statewide are affected by hunger.

The drive-thru format allows participants to stay in their vehicles while volunteers load boxes of food after a brief intake process. The service is open to the public, making it accessible to anyone in need.

Future Pantry Dates:

  • Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025

  • Saturday, Dec. 19, 2025
    (Dates subject to change)

UNT Dallas’ initiative continues to provide vital support, ensuring that students and community members in southern Dallas have access to nutritious food during a time of growing need.
