Mesquite Residents Receive Assistance Amid Federal Government Shutdown from Local Nonprofits

MESQUITE — The federal government shutdown continues to affect many Mesquite residents. Consequently, those relying on federal programs, including SNAP and WIC, are facing suspended benefits for the second consecutive month.

Local nonprofits, such as Sharing Life Community Outreach, are stepping in to assist residents during this difficult period. Although this support does not replace federal programs, it helps families access essential resources.

The City of Mesquite partners with Sharing Life to provide help with water bills. This effort prevents service disruptions for residents experiencing financial hardship.

Mesquite Mayor Dan Alemán Jr. encouraged residents to donate food or money to local nonprofits. He explained, “Executive Director Teresa Jackson and her team can make a dollar go far, especially with the holidays approaching.”
