Author and bilingual educator Jose-Luis Orozco and DISD students celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Children’s author/bilingual educator Jose-Luis Orozco joins teachers at L.K. Hall Elementary School to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Students at L.K. Hall Elementary highlighted Hispanic Heritage Month with a morning of fun activities that included reading, singing, and dancing capped off with more reading as Target volunteers presented each student with three books to take home to add to their personal libraries.

The morning began with children’s author and bilingual educator Jose-Luis Orozco leading the students through a reading adventure. Then it was on to songs and counting in Spanish and English accented by laughter from students, teachers and the volunteers. The excitement in the auditorium rose to a deafening roar as Orozco urged teachers on stage to show off impromptu dance moves from Spain and Mexico.

Orozco also visited George Peabody and Casa View elementary schools where students received books to take home as well.

In the past year, Target has provided in-kind donations and funding of more than $1 million to support Dallas ISD schools, and district wide elementary reading initiatives. Target’s book donations will help support the district’s goal to encourage students to read at home every day.
