6 year-old girl reportedly among the victims of Newtown, CT shooting

UPDATE: ABC News is reporting that Nancy Lanza did not work at Sandy Hook Elementary according to district officials. Also, police believe the shooter Adam Lanza got into the school by breaking a window.

A press conference was scheduled earlier this morning in Newtown, CT where officials are expected to provide the names of the victims from shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Police are now saying that once they hold the news conference it is possible all names will not be released because all of the bodies have not been positively identified. Reportedly because it is an extensive crime scene, all of the bodies have not been removed from the school over 20 hours later.

A Canadian newspaper’s website is reporting that Ana Marquez-Greene, 6 years-old was among the victims. The young girl moved from Winnipeg to Newtown in July with her parents and older brother. Her brother was at the school but was not harmed. Reports indicate her father is Canadian jazz musician Jimmy Greene. Also her grandfather is Jorge Marquez and he is mayor of Manaubo, a city in Puerto Rico and he has told a local newspaper that according to his granddaughter’s parents, she has died from her wounds.

The known victims include 47 year-old principal Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, she has served as principal since 2010. According to reports she was in a meeting with a parent and the counselor. Hochsprung and the counselor rushed out the room to see what was going on when they heard what was the early gunshots. The counselor and principal did not return, a third victim returned but was shot however they reportedly survived.

The shooter is identified as Adam Lanza, 20 years-old, described as a loner, possibly suffering from Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. But while he was reportedly socially awkward, there was no history of violence. Most of the day it was reported that his mother, Nancy Lanza, was a teacher at the school, but last night other reports indicated that she possibly was a substitute but not an actual staff member.

Ryan Lanza, the older brother of the shooter, was briefly identified as the shooter at least via social media because Adam Lanza supposedly had identification with his brother name on it. However, Ryan has told officials he has not seen his brother since 2010. Yesterday Ryan had to post on his Facebook page that he was not the shooter, he was at work when it happened. Later in teh day he was taken in for questioning by law enforcement officials.

Police indicate that Adam Lanza killed his mother at the home they shared. He arrived at the school, with at least four weapons, two were found in his car later, two or three were found with his body. He was dead from a self inflicted gun wound. Police officials indicate they did not fire any shots.

The guns in the shooter’s possession were legally purchased and registered by his mother.
