As Americans head into a three day weekend which will feature the Inauguration of President Barack Obama for his second term, the President pays tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his commitment to service. All citizens are encouraged to spend time helping their community through volunteer work on Saturday.
The law requires the president to be sworn in by Noon on January 20, so President Obama will be sworn in Sunday afternoon, with the full Inauguration services on Monday, January 21. It will be a historic occasion for America’s first African American president to be sworn in for his second term on the day America honors the legacy of the only African American bestowed with a national holiday celebration.
Many point out the day will not be the realization of Dr. King’s Dream, but America’s downpayment on the full promises of America to all citizens.
