President Obama & Vice President Biden sworn in for second term on Sunday

The 20th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution requires the President of the United States to be sworn in by 12 p.m. Noon no matter what day of the week on which it falls. This morning President Barack Obama was sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office Sunday in the Blue Room of the White House. First Lady Michelle Obama held the family Bible given to her mother by her late father, Fraser Robinson III, on Mother’s Day in 1958.

Earlier in the day Vice President Joe Biden was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic to serve on the court and only the fourth woman to swear in a president or vice president.

The official pubic inauguration events are held on Monday whenever January 20 falls on a Sunday.
