Unless Governor Rick Perry intervenes, at 6 p.m. today Kimberly McCarthy will become only the 13th woman executed in the United States since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. The Supreme Court declined to review her case on Jan. 7 and last week The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles declined a request for clemency, leaving Gov. Perry, McCarthy’s only chance to avoid execution.
Texas restated use of the death penalty in 1982, with 482 individuals executed, but only were three women. Currently there are ten women, including McCarthy on Death Row.
International Business Times shared:
“McCarthy became infamous in the state of Texas when she was convicted of killing her 71-year-old neighbor, Dorothy Booth, inside Booth’s home on July 21, 1997, after asking if she could come inside to borrow some sugar.
Booth, a retired college professor, was stabbed and bludgeoned to death by McCarthy after a struggle ensued between the two at her house in Lancaster, 15 miles south of Dallas, according to the Associated Press. After killing Booth, McCarthy proceeded to cut off Booth’s left ring finger and stole her diamond ring, which she sold to a pawn shop, Reuters reported.”
McCarthy is now 51 years old, and according to published reports, officials consider a suspect in the murder of two other elderly women.
A severe cocaine addiction was the prime factor in what led, McCarthy, a former occupational therapist, to murder Booth according to a petition started by Change.org. The website has gained 1,630 signatures so far, but there is no indication Gov. Perry will issue a stay of execution.
Im sick and tired of hearing people talking about how texas is going to murder a woman tonight. Are these people forgetting what mccarthy did. I don.t buy the bullshit about “She was trapped in a downward spiral of drugs” I know other drug abusers don.t go round killing innocent people and chopping their fingers off. Mccarthy needs to be removed from society, she crossed the line not once, but three times. Just because she’s a woman doesn’t save her skin. And if governor perry is to do the right thing, then he will leave this murdering monster to her date with the gurney and needle. My thoughts and prayer’s will be with the victims and their families tonight not this murdering hag.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Clearly there are alot of people who need prayer as this chapter is brought to a close. If she did in fact kill her mother’s best friend and the other victim, hopefully McCarthy will do the right thing and acknowledge this so those families can have closure. Hopefully she has made her peace with God.
Just found out that a dallas judge has halted the execution until april. This is what the problem is with executing people, the long road to doing the execution. I really feel for the victims and their families when this happens because they need closure. But i also feel for mccarthy’s family because, her actions have a ripple effect that spreads out far and wide. I believe in punishment to the letter of the law, as it says in the bible you have to accept the law of the land, however the capital punishment system in america is a joke. The family members of the victims will have been prepared tonight to finally bring an end to their heartache, only to discover yet again that, thats not to be. I think what kimberly mccarthy did was absolutely heinous, and to the most vulnerable members of society, the elderly. I just want it to be over for the victims families, and for the state to either execute this woman or put her in jail for life no parole. Sort it out texas, your costing tax payers thousands.
I’m full of peace, god loves me
ok so its past the date did they execute her or what?
No actually because the Texas Legislature is considering laws which would impact her case, it was delayed until the summer last week.
