Black history spotlight for Feb. 22: Rex Stewart

Jazz master Rex Stewart is best known for his work with the Duke Ellington orchestra. Duke Ellington arranged many of his pieces to showcase Stewart’s talent and style. Stewart co-wrote Boy Meets Horn and Morning Glory while working with Ellington. He left after eleven years to lead his own swing bands. Stewart spent his later years publishing highly regarded jazz criticism. He died on Sept. 7, 1967.
