The Kimbell Art Museum presents the film “Aguirre: The Wrath of God” (1972) at 2 p.m. on July 28, in the Museum auditorium. This 93-minute-long program is part of the Kimbell’s “Summer Adventure Series: From Amazon to Andes.” No reservations required. Admission is free.

In this unforgettable cinematic portrait of madness and power, a band of Spanish conquistadors sets out from atop the Andes mountains of Peru and descends into the rain forest in search of the fabled city of gold, El Dorado. Winding their way along the lush yet treacherous Amazon River, the soldiers are beset by starvation, savage natural forces, and splintered loyalties. Yet their indomitable leader Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski), consumed with his visions of conquering all of South America, drives the doomed quest past the brink of sanity and into oblivion. This international classic directed by Werner Herzog was listed in Time Magazine’s All-Time 100 Movies in 2005.
