The Irving Police Department issued the following statement regarding the arrest of Norma Callejas for a misdemeanor theft under $500 this morning:

This morning at about 6:09 a.m., officers responded to the Walmart located at 1635 Market Place for a report of a theft. According to the caller, the suspect in the theft fled the location driving a silver Dodge Neon. Responding officers saw the vehicle and stopped it in the 7800 block of N. MacArthur. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 42-year-old Norma Callejas Gonzales.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the anti-theft alarm located at the exit of the store was activated as Gonzales walked out of the store. She was contacted by Walmart loss prevention officers but refused to stay. Officers located Walmart property inside of Gonzales’ purse with a total value of $184.01.

Gonzales was placed under arrest for theft under $500, a class B misdemeanor. She was transported and booked into the Irving Jail.

Gonzales has posted bond and is no longer in-custody.
