Franklin doing well after surgery

Aretha Franklin said Friday she is thankful that a medical procedure went without a glitch.

“God is still in control,” Franklin said in a statement to The Associated Press. “I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country.”

An undisclosed medical procedure was performed on the 68-year-old Grammy-winning singer in a Detroit hospital. Last month, the singer cancelled all of her scheduled concert dates and public appearances until May 2011.

In May, the queen of soul received an honorary doctorate degree in music from Yale University.
