Fatal house fire in Garland

Garland fire deptSource Garland Fire Department:

The Garland Fire Department responded to a fire at a townhouse in the 800 Block of Pebble Beach at 1:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon. When the first truck arrived on scene at 1:19 p.m., they reported heavy smoke and fire and initiated an interior attack. A second alarm was shortly issued.

Neighbors informed firefighters that an elderly occupant in one of the homes lived alone. The search and rescue team discovered a deceased adult female in a downstairs room. The medical examiner was notified to confirm the identification and determine the cause of death.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were four units involved. A fire loss amount has not been determined. Firefighters also recovered the body of a pet.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene and returned to work.
