Entrepreneurs For North Texas volunteers celebrate Freedom Day with a day of service at W.H. Atwell Law Academy.

More than 500 corporate volunteers from nearly 60 Entrepreneurs For North Texas Member Companies gathered on September 11 to spend the day serving others.

The group held its 12th Annual Freedom Day, which took place at Dallas ISD’s William H. Atwell Law Academy. After a brief opening program, the volunteers dispersed to all four corners of the school to paint, repair and landscape the middle school campus.

While the volunteers worked, the students were whisked away to enjoy the day at the Perot Museum of Nature & Science only to return in the afternoon to a refurbished campus complete with a rebranded new school flag and a fresh mural featuring the school’s rejuvenated mascot.

The volunteers concluded the day with a Celebrating Freedom Gelato Social and awards presentations.

Principal Selena Deboskie praised the enthusiastic volunteers and said reflecting on the tragic events of 9/11 can make us remember the despair we felt on that day in 2001. But the volunteers’ work will be something students and staff remember. “We are so grateful for today and our students will be forever impacted,” she said. “They will never doubt that a group of community citizens can make a difference. In the words of our students, ‘You rock!’ ”
