Plano Multicultural Outreach Roundtable hosting National Day of Prayer May 1

national day of prayerThe Plano Multicultural Outreach Roundtable (MCOR) will host a National Day of Prayer program on Thursday, May 1 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Plano Municipal Center, 1520 K Avenue. The public is invited to attend this free event and reception. The reception immediately follows the service and is designed to foster dialogue between various cultural and religious groups.

The award-winning Younger Generation Chorus, a children’s choir led by Tenesa Rasmussen, accompanied by Darrel Fletcher, will perform prior to the program as well as provide additional selections during the program. Dorayne Breedlove, the founder of the art education program “A Slice of Rainbow in Plano”, will be playing flute and drums. Other groups will use traditional instruments to highlight their culture.

“The Day of Prayer encourages understanding in Plano’s diverse community. It gives the community an opportunity to participate in different cultural and religious services they may not have experienced before” said MCOR Co-chair Mary Alice Garza.

The Plano National Day of Prayer program celebrates its eighth anniversary as an interfaith service. It is held in the evening to accommodate working people and school children. The program is characterized by brief prayers of an inclusive nature offered by clergy from various faith communities. Those who speak a language other than English will have their prayers projected in English so all might understand them.
