North Dallas Gazette partners with Bear Creek Baptist Church to encourage learning

The North Dallas Gazette Newspaper is proud to announce its partnership with the Summer Reading Program at Bear Creek Baptist Church. We started this wonderful program to provide students in grades 1-8 the opportunity to create and develop a two page newsletter highlighting the accomplishments and activities of the students during this program. The Bear Creek Baptist Church Summer Reading Program was started in 2006 as a way to assist students with improving their reading skills for the next grade level. The program has been successful in its five years and is steadily growing.
The partnership between the North Dallas Gazette and Bear Creek Baptist Church will expose these students to the world of print. We have taken the time to develop this starter program to educate the students on every aspect of the production of a newsletter. The project includes article writing, editing, and interviewing; graphic design and layout; photography and other key components.

The enthusiasm of the students has been overwhelming in our pilot program. We can boast a nearly 90 percent participation out of approximately 40 kids and our goal was just 8-10 students. The student’s completed newsletter will be in our July 27, 2011 edition.
