Online Store to Break the Cycle of Poverty for Artisans in Africa and India
SILVERDALE, WA – In the latest podcast episode of Beyond the Village, Lizzie Randazzo, founder, CEO, and creative director of nonprofit Market Colors explains how she is empowering widows in Malawi by giving them the training and market access they need to succeed and provide for their children.
It all started during Lizzie’s first mission trip to Malawi with Children of the Nations (COTN). She fell in love with these beautiful products the widows made out of African cloth and beads. But these women only had access to a small market and were struggling to care for their families.
“Whenever I’d bring stuff home people thought they were really unique and had a really great story,” Lizzie says. “I thought OK, well people love it and they have to go to Africa to get it. What if we gave these women access to the rest of the world through an online shop?”
Soon after, Lizzie founded Market Colors. In this podcast she gives us a peek into how Market Colors is creating sustainable, creative business opportunities for these women and many more in Africa and India.
