“We at the Dallas Public Library are proud to partner these classes with Telemundo and DFW International Community Alliance. They are of great value in helping New Americans integrate and form the fabric of the American Society including classes of citizenship” says Miriam Rodriguez, Assistant Director of Public Services of Dallas Public Library. The Dallas Public Library serves a population of 1,197,816, with 26 percentage of the population born in another country. Some of the countries represented in our service area include: Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, China, Korea, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, and Nepal. Libraries are the equalizers of society and it is only natural that we want to address this crucial need.
“As a native of Cuba, who immigrated in 1983, I understand how overwhelming the process of integrating into a new society could be”. While I was grateful for the many opportunities my new country offered my family, it was not until I became an American Citizen that I felt part of the society and understood all the rights and responsibilities of being a US citizen.”
