Politics, dance and National Night Out on DFW calendar this week

As we turn the chapter to the final quarter of 2018, politics, social fundraisers and getting to know our neighbors better are a few of the items on the calendar in the Dallas area. Also, do not forget Oct. 9 is the last day to register to vote in the critical 2018 midterms this November.

Dallas

Fall Brown Bag Dance Series is scheduled for Oct. 1-5  at12 p.m. Mon., Wed. & Fri.; 12:30 p.m. Tues. & Thurs. in the Bob Hope Lobby – Owen Arts Center, 6101 Bishop Blvd. on the SMU campus. The event is free.

The Division of Dance presents lunchtime performances of 10-15 original, student-choreographed works in multiple genres including ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip-hop. For more information call 214.768.2787.

Dallas residents are joining neighborhoods around the country for the 35th Annual National Night Out on Oct. 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This year District 3 and District 4 are coming together to celebrate a joint celebration at Glendale Park. A candidate’s forum hosted by the North Dallas Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated will be held on Oct. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church Life Center, in Dallas. This free event will allow attendees to discover candidate views, hear the candidate platforms, and obtain information on Voter ID requirements.

Attendees will be able to hear from candidates from U.S. Senate, U.S. Representative Districts 3, 24, 32, Texas Governor, Texas Lt. Governor, Texas Attorney General, Dallas County District Attorney, State Senator Districts 8, 16, State Rep. Supply Hope is hosting a fundraiser on Oct. 18 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at 4252 Cochran Chapel Road, in Dallas. This 4th annual evening event is to gather friends, funds, and awareness. Cocktails and bites will be featured at the event. It is suggested to dress in casual chic attire. Garland

Mesquite

National Night Out will be hosted on October 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Eastfield College, in Mesquite. This event will also include the movie “CoCo.” Free food is included in this family-friendly event on the lawn outside Building F.
