CARROLLTON — The City of Carrollton has achieved a major national milestone. Officials announced its official recognition as an ElectriCity by the International Code Council® (ICC) and the Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry (IAEI).
However, the honor was presented during the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Carrollton joins only three other U.S. cities with this prestigious designation.
The ElectriCity® program recognizes municipalities that meet rigorous standards for electrical safety and staff certification. It also highlights training excellence and code compliance.
Moreover, Carrollton’s Development Services Director and Building Official, Brett King, expressed pride in the achievement. “This certificate proves Carrollton prioritizes electrical safety and code enforcement,” King said. “It reflects our inspection staff’s hard work and professionalism.”

King emphasized that electrical codes are vital for community protection and fire prevention. Proper adherence ensures safe installations and protects residents and property across the city.
Additionally, all nine of Carrollton’s building inspectors completed the ICC/IAEI Electrical Inspector Joint Certification Program in June. “Every day, they demonstrate leadership in promoting safe electrical installations,” King added.
The International Code Council is a global leader in model codes and building safety standards. It provides accreditation, technology, training, and certification services to enhance safety and sustainability.
Furthermore, the Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry serves as a professional trade association focused on electrical hazard prevention. The organization supports high safety standards through education and certification.
Together, the ICC and IAEI advance building safety worldwide. Their ElectriCity® program helps cities ensure compliance, improve professional development, and reduce electrical hazards.
Lastly, the ICC/IAEI Joint Certification Program offers electrical professionals a credential recognized nationwide. It enhances job mobility and supports safe, sustainable communities.
