DART Approves 24.6 Million in Security and Cleaning Contracts to Enhance Rider Experience

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Board of Directors approved two major contracts worth $24.6 million to improve security and cleanliness systemwide. These investments aim to enhance the overall experience for riders across the North Texas transit network.

DART awarded a contract to Preferred Technologies, LLC, to upgrade its surveillance camera system. The project includes replacing thousands of cameras and unifying hardware and software, increasing collaboration between DART Police Department and operations teams. The cameras will cover trains, buses, platforms, bus stops, and facilities, while advanced analytics improve response times. This represents the first major system overhaul since 2010. Fieldwork is expected to begin in early 2026.

“This upgraded camera system is part of a multi-step process to ensure our trains, buses, and facilities are secure for employees and riders,” said Randall Bryant, DART Board Chair. “These new cameras not only enhance security, but also allow us to operate more efficiently.”

The Board also approved a $7.8 million contract with Texas Elite Facility Services for bus stop and shelter cleaning. The contract doubles the frequency of cleaning and integrates vendor services with DART’s internal maintenance system, improving response times and quality control. DART plans to install 1,200 next-generation shelters, with 60 already in service, and standardized inspections will ensure cleaner, safer stops.

“These two contracts deliver on our $2 billion DART Transform promise to modernize vehicles, stations, and facilities,” said Nadine Lee, DART President and CEO. “Investing in infrastructure and services ensures riders choose DART at every point in their journey.”

The initiatives reflect DART’s commitment to providing a secure, clean, and modern transit system while preparing for continued growth across the region. Riders can expect to see improved safety measures and cleaner bus stops throughout 2026.
