Boston Marathon suspects: Russian brothers one dead, one on the loose, Watertown on lockdown

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19 and on the right, is a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing. He is armed and dangerous according to police. This photo was uploaded ot a Russian social network shortly before the shooting began overnight. The man in the dark t-shirt is unidentified.

A manhunt is underway for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Five hours after the FBI released photos of the Boston Marathon suspects, seeking help from the public, a cop was murdered, a carjacking and attempted robbery of a 7-11. And then the two suspects led the police on a dangerous shootout throughout Watertown, a Boston suburb, leaving one suspect with an explosive device strapped to his chest dead and his brother still on the loose.

Approximately 250,000 are asked to stay home, because of the dangerous situation. Police have announced public transportation is shut down, schools closed, businesses are closed and residents are told to stay in their homes and do not answer the door unless it is an uniformed police officer. Even the area universities including MIT and Harvard are closed. The National Guard is assisting in the search throughout the region.

The fireworks began when the suspects shot and killed a MIT police officer, shooting him in the head. The other events unfolded according to ESPN:

“Authorities said surveillance tape recorded later Thursday showed the suspect — known for the white hat — during a robbery of a convenience store in Cambridge, near the campus of MIT, where a university police officer was killed while responding to a report of a disturbance, said State Police Col. Timothy Alben. The officer died of multiple gunshot wounds.

From there, authorities say, two men carjacked a man in a Mercedes-Benz, keeping him with them in the car for half an hour before releasing him at a gas station in Cambridge. The man was not injured.”

The suspects are brothers from Russia near Chechnya, they reportedly came to the United States within the last two years.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19 is still on the loose and was a student at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School. He received a scholarship and  in Feb. 2011 was named athlete of the month. A profile on the Russian social network VKontakte (In Contact) included photos and a few posts. RT.com reports:

“Dzhokhar has several Chechen-related interests stated in his profile. He states that he speaks Russian, English and Chechen and holds career and money as his personal priorities. He claims he is a believer in Islam.

The page has but a handful of posts, most of them jokes. The owner’s last visit of the page was from a mobile phone shortly before the shooting in Boston started.”
