Letter to the Editor re: Jobs for Blacks

In response to the story earlier this month Black Joblessness Becoming Showdown Between Black Leaders & Black President the following letter was received.

I have a question: Why should ANYONE demand jobs based on their racial heritage or skin color? That is the most outrageous thing I have ever heard.

Jobs are given to those who do what they need to do to become qualified for the jobs and then persistently apply until they get them. It isn’t easy for anyone, anywhere. Even though my skin is white, if I want a job and I don’t qualify, I have to work to resolve that issue, even if it means working a job I hate for awful pay while going to night classes. This holds true for anyone.

A job is a job and work is work. It is not fun and games. There are plenty of jobs out there – I see hiring signs all the time. Some of those jobs suck, it is true, but that doesn’t mean it has to last forever, and you never know what a lousy job will bring you in the future. It could be a stepping stone to a better one.

I am sure you worked very hard in many ways to get the job you now have and it did not happen quickly. You should be telling people of any skin color to stop looking for a handout, strengthen their pride, stay persistent and work harder than they ever have before. That is what will pull this country out of this recession.

May God bless you and keep you healthy, wealthy and wise.

  1. I agree with Michelle P., and my skin is not white.

If whether we get a job depends on the race of the President we might be in trouble.

  2. Hello. This is kind of an “unconventional” question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time Thanks for any help you can offer here.
