Mo’Nique shunning folks and acting brand new

“I am on the ride on my life,” comedian, BET talk show host and now Academy Award winning actress, Mo’Nique said after she won the coveted award for Best Supporting Actress on Sunday, March 7.  But what we want to know is Mo’Nique letting her recent successes change who we have always known her to be?

We ask this question because there have been reports from several sources that the new Hollywood golden child shunned Barbara Walters, the oldest living relic in journalism; several mainstream media outlets who attempted to interview her after she won the award; and this thing about having an open marriage.

Let’s start with the open marriage thing.  If she meant that her definition of marriage is being able to discuss everything with your mate and that cheating does not mean throw the marriage away then ok. But if she was talking about allowing her husband, Sydney –her longtime friend, to sleep with whatever person (what she talking ‘bout Willis?) he chooses then um that is not it, baby.

Now on to the shunning of the media and Walters, it is understandable that Walters and mainstream media may have been rude to Mo’Nique when she was just Ms. Parker but returning the favor is not worth the effort.  Why, because media and Walters has been around longer than she have and when her career fizzles out, media and Walters will still be around.  So why not just play nice with the media, even though we know she had fun laughing at their reaction when she rejected them like they rejected her.

Lastly, Mo’Nique needs to remain who she is at all times.  We came to love her for being this wonderfully talented thick woman who represented for all women.  So Mo’Nique (we say as we clasp our hands together and look straight into the computer) Don’t let Hollywood change you because of recognition and congrats on those awards.
