Potter’s House responds to atheist-themed bus ads

(NDG Wire) During the month of December when many Christian families celebrate the birth of Jesus, a group of non-believers placed atheist-themed bus ads on four city buses in Fort Worth. Many local religious leaders felt insulted by the ads, particularly with the timing.

Rather than speak out against the ads, The Potter’s House, a 30,000-member nondenominational, multicultural church led by Bishop T. D. Jakes, chose to use the bus advertisements as an opportunity to share its own message of faith. At the beginning of January, The Potter’s House kicked off a month long advertising campaign on six Fort Worth city buses bearing the simple, yet powerful statement, “God still reigns.”

“Our atheist brothers have a constitutional right to voice their belief or disbelief in God,” said Derick Faison, campus pastor of The Potter’s House of Fort Worth. “As believers we also enjoy that same privilege. We understand that all men need God, and God loves all people, even those who insist on rejecting Him. Knowing that is true, we must be diligent and passionate about sharing the message of God’s love.”

The Potter’s House extended its ministry to Fort Worth with a special New Year’s Eve service at the end of 2009. Services were temporarily held at the Fort Worth Convention Center, and in October of last year, the inaugural service was held at its new location at the corner of Interstate 30 and Woodhaven Boulevard.
Located at 1200 Woodhaven Boulevard in Fort Worth, Sunday services are currently being held at 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in the youth sanctuary. The main sanctuary is being renovated and expected to open this spring.

The Potter’s House of Fort Worth actively participates in the Tarrant County Meals on Wheels Program, and offers Children’s Church, Youth Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, and Financial Budgeting and Planning Assistance. There is also a dental office and medical center located on the property. Once all renovations are complete, the complex will be an epicenter for the community, providing services for the mind, body, and spirit.
