The family of the late Al Lipscomb have released funeral arrangements for the former Dallas City Councilman on Monday.
Lipscomb, 86, died at his home early Saturday morning.
Lipscomb’s body will lay in state at the Hall of State at Fair Park, 3800 Grand Ave. in Dallas on Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24 from noon to 6 p.m. Lipscomb’s wake is slated for Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the hall.
Homegoing services are planned for 112 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at Friendship West Baptist Church, 2020 Wheatland Road in Dallas. Funeral services are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Home in Dallas.
Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) said Monday that Lipscomb was a strong community leader, businessman and public servant who was never afraid of controversy.
“He was a true advocate for peace, racial justice and social equality,” the longtime congresswoman of 30th District of Texas said in a statement. “Al was a man of great commitment. He provided tremendous support for me as a public official. I am deeply grateful for his counsel, support, assistance, and unquestionable trusted friendship.”
