Rosalind G. Brewer named president and CEO of Sam’s Club

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. last week announced a number of changes across the business, drawing on a deep bench of internal talent.

“We are very intentional about developing talent to meet the needs of our rapidly growing business worldwide,” said Walmart President and CEO Mike Duke. “The promotions we are announcing today are clear evidence that our succession and management development programs work, and that we have highly talented, well-rounded and experienced business leaders ready to step into larger roles when the opportunities arise.”

Current Sam’s Club President and CEO Brian Cornell, 52, recently informed the company that he and his wife would like to move back to the Northeast for family reasons.

With his departure, Rosalind G. Brewer, 49, is promoted to president and CEO of Sam’s Club, reporting to Duke, effective Feb. 1. Brewer was most recently president of the Walmart U.S. east business unit, where she was responsible for more than $100 billion in annual revenue, representing almost 1,600 stores and more than 500,000 associates. Brewer was also the first chairperson of the Walmart President’s Council of Global Women Leaders.

“Roz came to us with an outstanding background in consumer packaged goods more than five years ago,” said Duke. “During that time I have seen her develop into a talented merchant and retailer. She has strong strategic, analytical and operational skills and has successfully managed a large and complex business. I’ve also been struck by Roz’s servant leadership when I have visited stores with her. She always lets her team do the talking, with her focus being on how to better support their needs.”

Prior to Walmart, Brewer worked for Kimberly-Clark, progressing through various positions and eventually becoming president of a key business sector in 2004. She is a director of the Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) and currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees at her alma mater Spelman College. She was also selected one of the Most Powerful Women in Business by Fortune Magazine in 2010 and 2011.

  1. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, GOOD MORNING.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONTACT THE CEO OR PRESIDENT OF SAM’S CLUB, I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER OF SAM’S CLUB FOR ABOUT 16 YEARS HAD NO PROBLEM UNTIL NOW. I OPEN A CREDIT CARD WITH SAM’S CLUB I HAVE BEEN PAYING MY CARD. BUT ONE DAY I GOT A CHECK FROM SAM’S CLUB OF 200.00 WITH MY NAME AND ADDRESS STATING IT WAS CREDIT. A MONTH LATER SAM’S CLUB IS CHARGING ME THE 200.00 BACK
THEY ARE SAYING IT WAS A MISTAKE THEY DID. I AM REALLY UPSET DUE TO THEY WAITED A MONTH TO TELL ME THAT I HAD ALREADY CASHED THE CHECK AND PAY BILLS. HOW CAN THEY BE CHARGING ME FOR SOMETHING THAT I DID NOT DO. SAM’S CLUB IS STATING THAT I HAVE TO PAY THEM BACK I DO NOT HAVE THAT MONEY. THEY STATE IF I DON’T PAY IT BACK THEY WILL CHARGE ME FEES. THANK YOU I WILL BE WAITING TO HEAR FROM YOU THANK YOU VERY MUCH I AM SO UPSET THAT I WOULD LIKE TO CANCEL MY SAM’S CLUB MEMBERSHIP AND I DID TALK TO MY LAWER

  2. I have been a member of Sams Club for 20+ years and have never had any problems with Sams Club orders, etc. This time, I am very dissappointed with Sams Club representatives regarding an online order I placed almost a month ago. I ordered a $900+ patio set and finally received it after 3 weeks. When it arrived, the sofa rattan was cut and unraveling. I called Sams to have it replaced and they re-ordered the set and said they sent a request for the damaged set to be picked up. It is over a week now and I still have the damaged set in my backyard waiting for pick up and now am told they don’t know when it will be picked up! I am NOT a storage facility; I do not have the space for 2 patio sets! All Sams Club does is tells me I need to call the shipping company. Why is it my job to get this straightened out????? I will NEVER order from Sam’s Club again nor renew my membership! Being treated this badly in this economy is unbelievable!

  3. To whom it may concern
I am writing in reference to a return on order#3165184233. I have received this order on 10/17/2014 and I am trying to return this item because it is not as shown on the internet. I need a refund.
I couldn’t return this merchandise to the store for my refund because they can’t locate the item # in their computer system since it was purchased on line. (That’s what the Sam’s store in Lithonia GA told me.)
I’ve called Member Services at 1-888-746-7726 on Sunday 10/19/2014 to return this item and get a refund. Member services give me the ref#141019000983 and promise to contact me via phone or email with a return label in 24hrs to 72hrs. That never happen.
I follow up on Wednesday October 22, 2014 and every day after that thru Saturday October 25, 2014 and was told the ticket is still processing.
On Sunday October 26, 2014 I’ve called member services who stated they couldn’t locate the ref#141019000983 in the system so the request for refund was never process. I am furious now.
I spoke to the Supervisor (Elise) who give me another ref#141026-001092. Elise also stated she has requested a new ticket for return and again promise I was going to get an email about our conversation which would include this reference#141026-001092. That never happen. Also, again within 24hrs to 72hrs I would receive a phone call and email with the return label authorization to send this merchandise back. It has been 48 hrs and I have never received an email or a single phone call. As of today 11/4/2014 we have another ref# and have yet to receive a call or email.
I AM FED UP, DISGUSTED, AND ASHAMED TO SAY I AM A MEMBER OF SAMS CLUB. I AM TOTALLY ANGRY WITH THE CUSTOMER CARE I’VE RECEIVED SO FAR BECAUSE IT IS A PACK OF LIES. THERE IS A LOT OF MONEY ON THE LINE. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE MERCHANDISE AND WANT MY REFUND!!! Please help!

  4. This woman is a crazy racist. She doesn’t like white people and says so in interviews…NO MORE SAM’S CLUB for me. Our school district has a contract with Sam’s and I will be complaining about it. In this day and age her type of racial rage should be outlawed…oops! it is, but because she’s black it’s all good.

  5. Mrs brewer if you have a problem with white people there are laws for what you said about whites. I want you to respond to my message. People like you is what keeps crap stirred up. Your a racist bigot. I would love to talk to you face to face or on the phone. I will never shop at sam’s I will do away with my membership. You are a disgrace .when your reading this I know you’ll be saying another whitey. You racist bigot

  6. It’s impossible to get through to a Sam’s Club executive. The corporate wagons are circled to keep the average customer from reaching anyone in authority. Michael Moore should do a new movie called “Rosalind and Me,” since the climate around the club is similar to GM’s. My issue is with the bank that Sam’s uses for credit cards. Trying to resolve something with them is impossible and probably costing Sam’s a lot of loyal customers. I can’t can’t get through to an actual Sam’s Club executive to voice my concerns and displeasure.
