Mary J. Blidge sings about chicken

by Latrisha McDuffie, NDG Staff Writer

According to TMZ reports, that queen of hip-hop soul, Mary J. Blidge never signed off on the crazy Burger King chicken commercial where she stands on a table and sings about a new crispy chicken wrap.  Black people lost their minds on Twitter and Facebook criticizing Mary J for playing in to the stereotype that all Black folk love chicken and watermelon.

Mary told TMZ, “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip.” Burger King released a statement confirming that the ad was unleashed, “before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained.”

Okay, Black people…we do like chicken.  And the hook is catchy. I mean really! We eat a lot of chicken. Every Tuesday at Popeye’s I see a lot of people who look like me ordering chicken. Let it go!
