Ain’t no party like a Holy Ghost party, ‘cause a Holy Ghost party don’t quit! And Dallas is in for a bonified, hip-hop infused Holy Ghost party when The Good Life Tour with Trip Lee, LeCrae, Swoope, Jai, Vrose, KB, and Andy Mineo hit June 1, 2012 at Burton Theatre. Now, let me slow down and start over. Maybe, you have heard the names I just rattled off. Trip Lee, LeCrae, and Swoop are all Christian rappers on the Reach Record label. Please, allow me to rephrase. Reach Records has the best Christian hip-hop artists in the business hands down. And I am not talking horrible rap that you hear on Disney that pales in comparison to Lil Wayne and Drake. I am referring to brothers who can make even the most conservative of deaconess’s loss her Sunday hat and two-step. If you don’t believe me, I challenge you to go to You Tube and take a look at a few videos.
I wish that this kind of music was available when I was a kid growing up in church. I only had a powerful rendition of I Love the Lord; the words of which I did not know until I was grown. For years I thought we were singing “Guide me OVER thou great Jehovah”.
The Good Life Tour is a great concert for youth groups, ‘tweens, or the daring in Christ. If you need a Holy Ghost good time, you must go. You will hear lyrics that are scripturally sound and encourage people to follow Christ, be different from the world, and to serve God with reckless abandon.
But if you cannot make it to this concert check out local artists Nerd Boi and Rueben Lael. If you have ever seen them both; the resemblance is uncanny. The two artists look to be cut from the same body, but their music is as different as an arm and leg.
Nerd Boi has a skater vibe. Think Lupe Fiasco meets Church Boy from the Five Heart Beats. With his bright colored bow ties, which are very popular at my church; Mt. Pisgah, and his big red wooden heart he is defiantly a new school Christian artist. The first two songs you should download are My New Shoes and Unlock Me. My New Shoes is an uplifting song about the new walk of a Christian and Unlock Me is a wonderful worship song. www.NerdBoiMusic.com
Rueben Lael is a bridge between the old and new. If you listen close to his music you will hear the spirit of the hymnal and the hope of tomorrow. He has the gift of connecting history and dreams. Maybe, it is the foundation that his mother laid when she demanded that he learn to play the songs of our grandmothers before he learned to play the new stuff. Maybe, it is the product of the hundreds of sermons he heard his father preach at the small family church in Garland. Take a listen to Go Tell It and Yes, I Can and discover what it is. You can download Rueben Lael’s music on iTunes.
