Texas Black Women’s Initiative host mobilization conference

On Tuesday, May 29, The Dallas County Commissioner’s Court presented a resolution recognizing the Texas Black Women’s Initiative Conference.

The Texas Black Women’s Initiative Dallas Region is hosting a Community Mobilization and Empowerment Conference, “Community Mobilization: Working Together for Change”.

The conference will take place on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Sheraton Dallas North Hotel by the Galleria from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

The goal of the conference is to mobilize and empower community members by providing them with the resources and skills necessary to address HIV/AIDS and other health disparities faced by Black women.

Black women make up 71% of women with HIV living in Dallas.  In 2010, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported that there were 1,848 black women with HIV living in Dallas.

The event will include a screening of the documentary “Many Women, One Voice”.

The conference will conclude with a “Change Makers” network event for all participants, speakers, invited guest, and policy makers in the North Texas area.

Texas Black Women’s Initiative-Dallas Regional Team will partner with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dallas County Health and Human Services, Texas Department of State Health Services and Greater than AIDS.
