Turning Crime into Tragedy

Eugenio Zavala

By Kendria Brown, NDG Intern– Eugenio Zavala of Dallas, already facing other charges and with a rap sheet which includes possession of an illegal drug and criminal mischief, apparently felt that was not enough. Instead, he preferred to go from bad to worst, adding a felony charge to the mix. While in custody, Zavala assaulted his attorney which led to an altercation with a bailiff.

Appearing before a judge at the Frank Crowley Criminal Courts in County Criminal Court 5, Zavala was present with his attorney Jason McLemore. Zavala apparently did not like what McLemore had to say since their conversation incited Zavala to the point of attacking his own lawyer. Suddenly, Zavala hit McLemore in the face but McLemore did not simply turn the other cheek. He struck Zavala back in the face and held him up against the wall while asking for help.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputy David Bonner took the handcuffed Zavala back to his cell. When he decided he clearly was not in enough trouble, because then he attacked the bailiff too, hitting him in the face. Zavala apparently does not mind being locked up, because cannot seem to get along with authority.

All of this foolishness was not a smart move at all by Zavala, because now he faces a felony charge for assaulting a public servant, and a misdemeanor assault charge for attacking his – I am guessing – former or soon to be former attorney.
