Nap Nanny founder accuses govt of forcing small biz to shutdown because of recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission this week announced  retailers are cooperating with a voluntary recall of Nap Nanny Generations One and Two, and Chill model infant recliners. Baby Matters was the company which produced the merchandise and they are not closed. In fact the owner, Leslie Gudel, has accused the government agency of causing the closure of her small business over unfounded accusations.

In a statement on its website, Nap Nanny founder Leslie Gudel said that the CPSC’s alleged infants recliner deaths occurred from improper use.

“No infant using the Nap Nanny properly has ever suffered an injury requiring medical attention. The Nap Nanny was designed and constructed for use only on the floor with the harness secured,” the statement said, adding that the recall has forced it to shut down.

“Another small business is gone. Twenty-two Americans are out of work between Nap Nanny and our supplier. This doesn’t take into account the financial impact our closure has had on our other U.S. suppliers,” the statement said.

Major retailers Amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby, Diapers.com and Toys R Us/Babies R Us are among the retailers who have indicated participation in the recall.
