Jessica Chastain at the Oscars: Is her dress as overrated as her performance?

Jessica Chastain on Red Carpet at  Oscars 2013 wearing Armani Privé gown (E! Online)

The overrated hype of Best Actress nominee Jessica Chastain continues.

The television fashion watchers and online are raving about the dress she is wearing at the Oscars on the Red Carpet tonight wearing a gown designed by Armani Privé. And just like I felt about her performance in the movie for which she is nominated for Best Actress Oscar, Zero Dark Thirty, I personally feel the hype is not warranted.

Did I enjoy the movie – yes. But seriously for me the biggest thing I remember about her performance was the childishly dramatic way she kept track of the number of days that have passed on the window of her boss. Secret CIA agent or middle school brat – I couldn’t tell.

But other fan lovers and the Academy clearly did not agree with me. So back to the tonight. The gown is in a flesh tone neutral highlighted with Swarovski crystals and she is wearing jewels provided by the legendary Harry Winston. What I do like about Chastain’s outfit tonight, is her bold deep red lipstick.

Chastain speaking with Ryan Secrest on E! Live said her gown selection was a homage to Old Hollywood glamour, referring to it as a “Happy Birthday Mr. President” kind of vibe (when Marilyn Monroe sang to President John F. Kennedy).

So am I wrong – do you love Chastain’s performance in Zero Dark Thirty and or her Red Carpet gown?
