2013 The Big Read Dallas

The Big Read Dallas will unite the city behind reading Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, this April, thanks to the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, D Magazine, D Academy, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. It’s also the 60th anniversary for this book, selected because of its themes of courage, anti-censorship, and access to free information.

Dallas ISD ninth and 10th-grade students will join the city of Dallas in reading the classic novel. for The Big Read Dallas. Every district student in those grades will receive a complimentary copy of the book with high schools having their own celebrations to get students excited about reading the classic which depicts a futuristic society where books are banned.

Three schools have been indentified for a test program to measure the program’s success. These schools are Thomas Jefferson, North Dallas, and H. Grady Spruce high schools.
