UTA host:World No Tobacco Day event

tobaccoThe University of Texas-Arlington will celebrate World No Tobacco Day on May 31 in the UC Palo Duro Lounge from 10a.m.- 2p.m.. The university will host a health fair to help spread awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco.

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed every year on May 31. It was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987 as a way to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco products across the globe. The day is also intended to gain global attention to the widespread use of tobacco and its negative health effects, which currently lead to millions of deaths annually. The 2013 theme for World No Tobacco Day is: Ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship.

Students, adults, and schools can participate in WNTD by spreading tobacco-free messages, organizing major educational activities or by working with community partners to host an event, etc.
