Newark Mayor Cory Booker expected to announce candidacy for U.S. Senate

cb future photoNewark Mayor Cory Booker, a rising political star nationally, is expected to officially announce his plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat following the recent death of Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg. According to CNN, Booker’s campaign staff sent email notification of a press conference on Saturday morning.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, announced earlier this week the special election to replace the late Sen. Lautenberg, who was buried today in Arlington National Cemetery, is scheduled for primaires on August 13 and general election on October 16. They will serve the remaining portion of Sen. Lautenberg’s term with a full six-term election scheduled for November 2014.
