I don’t know about you, but as Congress debates ways to reduce the deficit, I’m concerned about our Medicare program.
Seniors make tough choices. Even though Medicare gives me access to health care and prescription drugs, it can still be a struggle to pay the copays and out-of-pocket costs. I have made the change to cheaper prescription drugs that don’t work as well but are in my budget. I recently moved to a smaller place so that I can keep up with my out-of-pocket health care costs. We all have personal experiences and stories about how we afford (or can’t afford) to stay healthy in our golden years. Medicare works to keep costs down while expanding access to health care for millions of Americans. Without Medicare, I would be in a world of hurt. And it pains me to think of what it would be like for current and future retirees without it. Instead of cuts to Medicare, like more means-testing or new home health co-pays, it seems to me we could and should save money for the Medicare program and taxpayers with policies like negotiating better prices on prescription drugs. Medicare is an American success story – we should work on making it stronger, not cutting services or shifting costs onto beneficiaries. Please join me in sharing your story about the high costs of prescription drugs and health care by clicking here!
