Students at First Methodist School learn about safety

image001Students from First Methodist School in Duncanville anxiously raised their hands to ask Duncanville Officers Eddie Edwards and Ben Luna about what it’s like to be a Police Officer. It was during this last visit to the campus where the Officers shared their best police story while teaching the children about safety.

It is all part of the Department’s initiative to foster relationships with the Duncanville Community. Officers schedule time out their weekly patrolling to read to children, give safety speeches, provide career day presentations, and have the children take a photo on a police bicycle.

“To see the looks on their faces and hear the questions they ask, it is innocence at its best,” says Officer Edwards. “These are memories that will last a lifetime, not only for the children, but certainly for us as well. We truly enjoy it.”

Police-related programs like these along with the Citizens Police Academy and National Night Out serve to provide an inside look at the structure of the Duncanville Police Department while equipping the citizens of Duncanville with safety tips at home and on the road.

These services are available to local businesses and organizations upon the officer’s availability. Interested groups should contact Crime Prevention Officer Doug Sisk at 972-780-5027 for more information
