Remembering 9/11

By Ruth Ferguson, NDG Editor

Today Americans join together to remember the nearly 3,000 victims of the attack masterminded by Osama Bin Laden and carried out by Al Qaeda terrorists. On that heartbreaking morning, September 11, 2001, we watched in horror as the two World Trade Center towers were crashed into with commercial airplanes, another hit the Pentagon. A fourth crashed into a Pennsylvania field when the brave passengers attempted to retake the plane from the hijackers.

We also take time out to remember the victims of the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya last year. Although the victim count was small in number, their loss was no less tragic. Four U.S. citizens were killed, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

Last night, President Barack Obama, made his case for giving peace a little more time, but moving forward with his request for a vote from Congress on attack against Syria. The president again emphasized a plan to execute, “a targeted strike to achieve a clear objective: deterring the use of chemical weapons and degrading Assad’s capabilities.”

So, again we come to another September 11th, remembering those we have lost and praying for peace throughout our country and the world.
