Over the weekend 5,000 participants demonstrated their commitment to end global poverty in the annual Dallas Partnership Walk / Run at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, TX. The Dallas Partnership Walk is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. (AKF USA) to raise awareness and funds that reduce poverty, hunger, illiteracy and poor health in Africa and Asia.
$873,000 was raised at the event and throughout the year, over $1,000,000 was raised in North Texas for Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. programs worldwide. 100 percent of the funds raised at Partnership Walk go directly to projects supported by the Foundation; not a cent is spent on administration.
The charity event featured a 5K competitive Run and a 1K Youth Fun Run (for children ages 6-13), along with the 3K family Walk. The event was a day of fun for the whole family and one that Dallas residents look forward to every year. The Walk featured lively entertainment and activities for all ages celebrating a rich diversity of cultures.
Speaking to the crowd at the opening ceremonies, Irving Mayor Pro Tem Gerald Farris remarked, “The city of Irving is so proud to have a world class organization like Aga Khan Foundation here as our city celebrates PartnershipsInAction. It is very important to our mayor and city because it benefits all of us regardless of what corner of planet we live.”
Geraldine Sicola, Director of Resource Development and Communications for the Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. noted “We thank all of you for being our partners in improving the lives of women, children and communities who are working to overcome the obstacles of poverty.”
One of the most inspiring features of Partnership Walk was the Village in Action, where participants enjoyed interactive exhibits spotlighting the Foundation’s practical solutions for alleviating poverty throughout Africa and Asia.
