Construction Career Day for Texas students

image003Gainesville, Fla.— NCCER’s Build Your Future (BYF) campaign is excited to announce it has teamed up with the Construction Education Foundation of North Texas (CEF) and North Lake College (NLC), in cooperation with TEXO Association, American Subcontractors of North Texas (ASA), Asian American Contractors Association of Texas (AACA), Black Contractors Association (BCA), Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council (D/FW MSDC), and Regional Hispanic Contractors Association (RHCA), to host the third annual Construction Career Day event on October 30, 2013, at CEF/NLC’s West Campus the DFW Education Center in Irving, Texas (Hwy 114/Freeport Pkwy) 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will highlight the national Careers in Construction Week that Build Your Future has established annually for the past 16 years.

Over 100 construction industry volunteers will host over 900 select high school juniors and seniors who have committed to attend the event. These students will be representing 35 North Texas high schools, to watch equipment and welding demonstrations, speak with local employers in the construction industry, and visit booths representing various professions in construction.

The collaborative efforts between Build Your Future, Construction Education Foundation of North Texas, North Lake College, TEXO, ASA, AACA, BCA, D/FW MSDC, and RHCA are a perfect fit for an event of this magnitude. We feel that this career day is a model for other states to follow in order to highlight technical education and professional rewarding careers in construction.

It is events like this that are instrumental in changing the image of the construction industry, boosting recruitment and ultimately narrowing the skills gap in America.
