Shane Stever soon will move into the new energy-efficient house he is having built in West Nashville. He said he actually is looking forward to seeing the energy bills for his home, which will be certified as meeting federal Energy Star standards. / George Walker IV / The Tennessean

Shane Stever is taking a gamble that by paying an extra $10,000 for his new house, he’ll make more profit when he sells it years from now. Meanwhile, he expects to save money on utility bills each month and, by the way, help save the planet.
