Letter to Editor: NFL takes step in right direction but need to do more

Dear editor,

Recently, the National Football League proposed a rule in which the use of the racially insensitive N-word could result in a personal foul penalty, if not a game ejection for the offending player.

I think the NFL needs to go beyond that and consider penalizing players who use other words, including the homophobic F-word, the misogynistic B-word, and other slurs that are meant to demean and degrade a certain demographic of society.

Because foul language has no place in the world of sports. Not in the stands, not in the locker rooms, and especially not in the fields of play.

Now, let me add my .02 — waste of time and more of an interruption and possible misuse. If this behavior happens in the locker room deal with it. On the football field, how is a ref going to decipher whether it is was “friendly fire” so to speak between teammates or insult when the bodies are piled up. Do you think the teams won’t try to use this as a strategy to slow down a game when the season is on the line? The reality is that game day is not the same as you and I showing up for work on Mondays. Deal with the stuff in the locker room before interfering with the game on the field.
