Purple Rain is 30 years old! Oh my goodness I feel ancient, wasn’t it just yesterday I was sneaking back into the theater to see it for the third time – that day?

Well I adjust to my age, the good news of the day is the fact that apparently Prince and Warner Bros. Records have kissed and made up from their rather dramatic fight. You remember when we had to refer to him as “the artist formerly known as Prince”? Well that was because of his battle with Warner over his rights. Looks like they have come full circle with the announcement of a global licensing partnership.

Variety reports, “The wide-ranging deal grants the singer ownership of his master recordings, and allows Warners to digitally remaster and reissue Prince’s albums from 1978 through the 1990s. Financial details were not disclosed.”

Um, this makes his performance at this year’s Essence Festival all the more interesting.

What was your favorite Prince song back in the day?
