Video of Irving Mayor sharing her views on Irving’s immigration enforcement policies

This is a 2007 video of the now current Mayor of the City of Irving, Beth Van Duyne. She is seeking re-election and in a heated battle opposite former Mayor Herbert Gears. In the video below, she is critical of his alliance with ACORN and the Hispanic community.

At the time, national and local headlines were discussing Farmers Branch aggressive enforcement of immigration laws. She called for a rejection of the Sanctuary City status Gears supported. Instead she favored the Delegation of Immigration Authority Section 287(g) Immigration and Nationality Act. This would result in the deportation of hundreds of Hispanic residents of Irving. The damage to families would be significant, far more than the Criminal Alien Removal Program advocated by then Mayor Gears.
