Collected signatures supporting DISD home rule petition require verification

DISD-Logo-300Zina Shaw, a Texas Organizing Project spokesperson and Dallas ISD parent, on Support Our Public Schools getting ready to turn in its collected petition signatures:
“As well-funded as SOPS is, it should come as no surprise to Dallas residents that the secretive group managed to get 48,000 petition signatures from the public in a couple of months. The far more impressive statistic would be finding out how many people of that 48,000 actually knew what they were signing.
Parents, students, educators, and taxpayers of DISD deserve quality public schools they can be proud of, not a rush-job Home Rule push that could potentially leave more of our kids left struggling in the classroom. Texas Organizing Project is no newcomer when it comes to fighting for change in DISD, and we will continue our fight for educational equity in the district.
That’s why TOP calls on DISD trustees to ensure that all Home Rule petition signatures are fully verified, because our children deserve due diligence.”
