Fifty years after the Civil Rights Movement the movie Selma, a story of the Civil Rights Movement, will open in theaters as young people protest police brutality across the country. Director Ava DuVernay’s SELMA tells the story of how the venerated pastor and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) lead a movement that impelled change and forever altered history.  The film only depicts three months in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a perilous movement to gain equal voting rights for African-American in the face of vicious opposition. The epic march on Washington that began in Selma and concluded with President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
