DALLAS – In celebration of Black History Month, McDonald’s of Greater North Texas has partnered with the Dallas Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc. to host an African American Read-In every Saturday in February.
The final event will occur on Saturday, February 27, 11:30 a.m. at McDonald’s located at 2575 E. Arkansas Lane, Arlington, TX 76011. We will read books and short stories for the families and children attending the event. Elected officials and community leaders are expected to attend and read as well.
“McDonald’s is committed to serving our communities and supporting education,” stated local McDonald’s Owner and president of the North Texas Chapter of the Black McDonald’s Owner Operators Association, Cliff Johnson, Jr. “This February, we are proud to partner with the Dallas Chapter of Continental Societies for our African American Read-In events.”
Founded in June 1956 and incorporated nationally in 1972, Continental Societies, Inc. is an international public service organization dedicated to the socioeconomic and cultural welfare of underprivileged youth. The Continental Societies Inc. embraces 46 chapters in 20 states in the Continental USA, District of Columbia and Bermuda.
“The Dallas Chapter has supported the African American Read-In for more than 16 years, and is a major part of our literacy program,” stated Judith Nix, president of the Dallas Chapter. “Our goal is to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.”

- Saturday February 6, Kick Off 11:30 a.m. – McDonald’s at 8333 South Lancaster Rd., Dallas
- February 13, 11:30 a.m. – McDonald’s at 5404 S. Cooper, Arlington, TX 76017
- Saturday, February 20, 11:30 a.m. – McDonald’s at 10320 Lake June Road, Dallas, TX 75217
- Saturday, February 27, 11:30 a.m. – McDonald’s at 2575 E. Arkansas Lane, Arlington, TX 76011
Children attending each event will receive a McDonald’s backpack* filled with school supplies and a book written by an African American author.
